The Pendleton Police Department Crisis Response Unit was established in the 1980’s. The Crisis Response Unit is comprised of two specialized teams:  the Negotiations Team and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).  The unit exists to provide specialized support in handling critical field operations where intense negotiations and special tactical deployment methods are required.

Our Crisis Response Team is available to any law enforcement agency or community in need of assistance upon their request.  Since the inception of the team our services and personnel have been used throughout Eastern Oregon.

The Pendleton Police Department’s Crisis Response Unit is made up of thirteen part-time team members:

  • Nine sworn law enforcement officers are employed by the Pendleton Police Department
  • Three sworn law enforcement officers from Hermiston Police Department

The team consists of a ten man entry team, two sniper/observer teams and three hostage-crisis negotiators.  The Crisis Response Unit responds to emergencies throughout Northeast Oregon encompassing approximately eighteen thousand square miles. The majority of tactical call-outs are the result of narcotics related investigations, high-risk search warrants and/or barricaded subjects.
