Parks and Recreation to Host Playground Grand Opening
Pendleton – Three new playgrounds will be opening at May, Aldrich, and Sherwood Parks later this August. Pendleton Parks and Recreation has been working to complete the three year project that will provide modern, safe, and exciting new play equipment at the three parks for the community. The parks will also provide close proximity outdoor space for exercise and play to neighborhoods across Pendleton. The community is invited to a grand opening event from 5:30 – 8 pm, August 27th at May Park, 180 SE Isaac Ave., Pendleton.
May and Sherwood parks have received numerous upgrades including ADA accessible walkways to the playgrounds. May Park will also have a concrete pad with briquette grill and picnic tables, as well as a concrete walkway to the restrooms. Sherwood Park will now have a concrete floor under its shelter and completely renovated bathrooms.
Aldrich Park’s new playground is the first of its kind for the park, upgrading the small play structure that already exists. This new addition will provide a playground within walking distance for those residents near Aldrich Park.
“The community has been anticipating the reopening of these playgrounds for quite some time,” commented Pendleton Parks and Recreation Director Liam Hughes. “The project has been passed through multiple hands of this department - three directors, two parks supervisors, and three special projects coordinators. These parks are now ideal locations for the community to come together and stay active.”
The grand opening event will include a ribbon-cutting by Mayor John Turner.
