Pendleton, Ore. — Bureau of Reclamation will be increasing flows out of McKay Creek to 2,000 cfs at 4pm rather that 6pm as originally planned. This is done as a precautionary measure. If you live along the creek expect to see water in your yards and possibly outbuildings. Residents should use sandbags to protect their property. City personnel are currently filling Sandbags and can be obtained at McKay School and in Community Park on the north end of SW 41st at the tennis courts.
For historical perspective, flooding along McKay Creek which occurred in 2004 reach 1,525 cfs. Today’s flows are planned to reach 2,000. In 1991 flows reach 3,494 cfs.
All non-residents are asked to stay out of the area leaving the streets open for neighbors and emergency personnel.
These swift water conditions can become extremely dangerous. For your safety, do not get close to the water.
