At the 2017 Oregon Association of Chief of Police Annual Awards Banquet, CHIEF STUART ROBERTS was presented with the prestigious MAX PATTERSON AWARD. The wording on the award read:
In recognition of your meritorious service to establish a new School Security Initiative for Eastern Oregon that included 18 school districts in Morrow, Umatilla and Union Counties. Without your committed leadership and tireless efforts, this ambitious effort to create safer schools would remain an unrealized vision.
Over a two-year period, you visited every one of the included school districts and completed environmental threat assessments for every school building. You held security work sessions with school administrators in order to adopt and revise district-wide emergency plans and you assisted districts with behavioral threat assessments including the identification of concerning student behaviors, tracking and sharing information and engaging community partners in safety planning.
The success of the School Security Initiative is a direct result of your dedication to community safety and collaboration in rural communities throughout Eastern Oregon. Due to your efforts, school districts have access to evaluation tools, resources, and training, schools are more secure and the 14,000 young students from Kindergarten through 12th grade in the region are safer.
