One of Pendleton’s treasures is our Umatilla River Parkway that runs along the Umatilla River. It boasts beautiful scenery, a plethora of native birds, excellent fishing and a cool reprieve from the hot summer sun. However, keeping Pendleton’s River Parkway beautiful for residents and visitors alike takes some work, and you can help!
Adopt-A-Parkway is a program for volunteers to help keep the Umatilla River Parkway clean, prevent potential pollutants from entering our waterways, and an even more beautiful river walkway. People of all ages and walks of life can be an active part of Adopt-A-Parkway. The program provides a great opportunity to promote civic responsibility, community pride and camaraderie within your organization.
The commitment to Adopt-A-Parkway is simple – just pick up litter in and around your designated “adopted” 300-foot area three times a year for a two-year period. The Pendleton Police Department provides the trash bags, and even will dispose of the trash you collect. A courtesy sign will be posted to provide your group with name recognition for your efforts to the community.
Adopt-A-Parkway is a great activity for families, church groups, neighborhoods, service clubs, youth groups, businesses, schools and other community organizations.
